Sony have joined the race and stole the limelight for this years classic console from Nintendo and announced today the PlayStation Classic; a mini version of the iconic PlayStation 1 console that is going to be out in time for the Christmas season.
Sony have announced the console will come with 20 games pre-loaded, with the full lineup yet to be announced, but with so many classics available on the PlayStation I don’t envy the people having to decide which games to include. The following trailer from PlayStation does show clips from Final Fantasy VII, Jumping flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms confirming these are 5 of the 20 games, but does this mean Tekken 2 or Final Fantasy VIII will therefore be sacrificed?
The console is due to be released on 3rd December 2018, 24 years after the original release date. The box will include the console, two replica controllers, an HDMI cable and a USB cable. Like previous classic consoles an AC adaptor is not included, but with many smartphones using these plugs you shouldn’t have to search hard for one.
Priced at £89.99, $99.99 or AU$149.95 which is the same price as the SNES Classic Mini, will be a must have console this Christmas. Hopefully we don’t see the fiasco of other classic minis where there wasn’t enough made and scalpers put them for sale for a lot more than the original price.
The Classic will be 45% smaller than the original console, but emulates the look and feel. The controllers look the same as the originals, the reset button will suspend games, the open button will allow you to change the virtual disc and the power button works as normal.
I’m hoping they include Metal Gear Solid. What game do you think Sony can’t leave out?
